Liverpool lost the top midfielder when they met MU

Joel Matip’s injury left Liverpool without a proper midfielder when he met MU in round 19 of the Premier League this season.

Coach Jurgen Klopp confirmed Joel Matip is absent for the next three weeks following a disc injury in the draw against West Brom last weekend. Matip will miss at least the next 3 Liverpool matches against Southampton (January 4), Aston Villa (January 8), and MU (January 17).

Thus, Liverpool does not have a true midfielder when he meets MU. Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are in long-term injuries. Van Dijk injured the ligament of the knee, and Gomez injured the knee bone.

Williams can replace Matip in Liverpool’s next game

Matip’s injury forced Klopp to use 19-year-old midfielder Rhys Williams to pair up with Fabinho in the last 30 minutes against West Brom. In the Newcastle draw, Liverpool continues to use the reluctant midfielder Fabinho – Nathaniel Phillips.

MU is still far behind Liverpool in scores in 2020

MU, despite going through a series of successful matches in the Premier League, still lags far behind Liverpool in terms of the average score in 2020. Liverpool drew 0-0 with Newcastle on Wednesday as the final Premier League match in 2020 and Jurgen Klopp’s teachers and students finished the year with the top spot.

They hope to defend the championship this season which, based on performance throughout 2020, seems likely to be realistic. Including matches in 2020, Liverpool still tops the table, earning an average of 2.20 points per game in the Premier League.

Liverpool won the highest average score in the Premier League in 2020

Man City followed with an average of 2.06 points, slightly higher than rival Man Utd, which won 1.97 points. The “Red Devils” have significantly improved their performance recently, gaining 23/27 maximum points in 9 rounds.

The newly-promoted Leeds United have entered the top four with 1.76 points per game in the Premier League in 2020, underlining a good start under manager Marcelo Bielsa. If the Premier League goes on in a calendar year it is bad news for Crystal Palace, Brighton, and Sheffield United.

MU won 23/27 points recently in the Premier League

Sheffield United surprised last season with a ninth-place but is getting off to a bad start in the current season. Chris Wilder’s teachers and students only got 2 points after 16 games and an average of only 0.79 points per game in 2020.
