Liverpool confirmed the successful recruitment of wing-back Tsimikas from Olympiacos, a team playing in the Greek National Championship.
According to Goal, Liverpool spent 11.75 million pounds for the signature of Tsimikas. The 24-year-old defender will sign a five-year contract with the defending Premier League champions. He was given the shirt 21, the old shirt number of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain or previously Lucas Leiva.
Liverpool’s rookie also has his first statement when he comes to the new team. Immediately, Tsimikas expressed ambition as coach Klopp mentioned.
In the 2019/20 season, Tsimikas made 46 appearances for Olympiacos and scored 7 goals. He is rated by Whoscored for his ability to dribble, pass and tack well. If you want to win the main kick in Liverpool, Tsimikas must overcome Andy Robertson, who has 12 assists in the Premier League this season. The Premier League champions on August 10 announced the rookie Greek left-back Kostas Tsimikas.
Tsimikas signed a long term contract after passing the medical examination. Liverpool will pay a transfer fee of 15 million USD for Olympiakos, the most successful team in Greek history with 45 national championships.
Tsimikas played 86 matches for Olympiakos and three games for the Greek team. The 24-year-old left-back will be a backup plan for Andy Robertson.
Tsimikas is a cheap rookie for Liverpool
Tsimikas is Liverpool’s first rookie in the summer 2020 transfer window. In the opposite direction, the Premier League champion has freed goalkeeper Andy Lonergan, midfielder Adam Lallana, and defender Dejan Lovren.
Former Liverpool midfielder John Barnes predicts that the new Premier League champion will not buy superstars this summer. Klopp was advised not to spend hundreds of millions of pounds on players.
Barnes, who played for Liverpool for 10 years from 1987 to 1997, once advised Klopp not to buy more stars, because that could ruin the team of Liverpool now. After the end of the 2019-2020 season, Klopp also confirmed that the home team will be silent on the transfer market and only take action if any talented player wants to leave.
One of the players Liverpool’s eyes are on is Bayern Munich midfielder, Thiago Alcantara. Barnes thinks that the Spanish player will be suitable for Klopp, but Liverpool does not have to be recruited.
